20世纪30年代的上海滩时局动荡，军阀混战，民不聊生。为购买一块江湖流传的宝玉，知名商贾周成川来到莽山中的一座破庙中，与尊号“三目天师”的容易道人和同乡阿述交易，风尘女子朱玲玲则作为中间人作陪。不料正赶上大雨，众人被困在庙中。容易道人几人却告知周成川宝玉生意要在规定时辰才能交易，在交易之前，要先给周成川讲一个故事……起因是一段张督军死亡之事……周成川听的不耐烦，又觉得几个人故弄玄虚，生起疑心，决定要走，这时，警长阿顺中途闯入，以查办张督军案为由拦下周成川，周成川以为容易和警官串通，要讹诈他钱财。众人继续讲述案件和故事，亲眼目睹的有，道听途说的则添油加醋。听完故事的周成川惊恐万分，周成川之所以如此害怕，是源于一段昔日的生死恩怨……

　　影片讲述在十年九旱的宁夏西海固，一个偏远的农村里，一个穆斯林老头的老伴去世了，老人和儿子举意要在老伴祭日那天宰掉陪伴老人十多年的老牛来搭救亡人。在接下来的日子里，老人和儿子对牛精心照料，并且也流露出对牛的不舍和对老伴的思念。在祭日的前三天，这头牛在饮它的水里看到了将要宰它的那把刀子，于是开始不吃不喝，为了以一个清洁的内里来结束自己的生命，之后老人就陷入了对生命和死亡的思考之中。

　　杨明远厌倦了土匪生活，带着儿子坎子回到故乡。他从当镇长的哥哥那儿要了块地，开了个棺材铺积德行善。杨明远当年的情人窦瓜现已嫁给了屠户胡为，现在，他要胡为将窦瓜还给他，遭到拒绝。窦瓜在屋里看见杨明远暗暗哭泣。不久，棺材铺开张，杨明远和杨明善重新为死去的爹娘入殓。棺材铺的生意不错。但10年前与杨明远结怨的胡为和财主李兆连不想看杨发财，两人密谋着怎样把杨逐走。镇上一穷人家办丧事。杨明远带着众伙计抬来一具棺材周济这家穷人，并向镇民们热情打招呼。然而，镇民们知道他曾是土匪，都远远地跑开了。棺材铺里，杨正教导坎子好好读书，杨明善跑来告诉他：刚送去的棺材又被抬回来了。落日映红了天边，杨明远蹲在废墟的草丛中沉思着。窦瓜悄悄来到他的身后，杨明远看着窦瓜愣住了，突然，两人激动地拥在一起。清晨，杨明远来到胡为家，再次要胡为把窦瓜还给他。胡为一口拒绝，继续折磨窦瓜。李兆连的儿子贵贵欺负胡为的女儿花花，刘妈把贵贵教训了一顿。气急败坏的李兆连带着众人把胡家砸得落花流水。杨明远带着金条，并把棺材铺都交给胡为想换回窦瓜。胡为还是不肯。当过土匪的杨明远，虽然发了财，却依旧被镇民看不起，财主依旧欺负他，这使一度泯灭的土匪本性在他胸中复燃。醉醺醺的杨明远躺在沙漠中，李兆连的儿子贵贵的一番话刺痛了他。他渐渐平静下来，脸上露出了杀机。贵贵死了，绝望的李兆连认定是胡为干的。于是李胡两家召集各自的人马磨刀霍霍要拼个你死我活。镇街上，到处是土炮的爆炸声。人们慌乱地向镇外逃跑。胡为被标枪刺中死去，李兆连被炸死在井边。镇长杨明善也中枪倒下。镇上一片火海，到处是死尸。深夜，棺材铺内一声巨响。坎子、花花站在镇外，看着整个镇子处在一片火海中……

　　五十岁的装潢建筑公司老板国庆最近有点心烦，妻子安心悄无声息地独自去了岔口村徒步，并要求国庆也去，但这个地方一直是国庆的一个心结，去与不去，让他犹豫不决。国庆与安心是大学同学，毕业结婚时两人约定要在岔口村山村支教，做一对浪漫爱人。但国庆爽约回到城里进入国企工作，安心也只能告别岔口村。之后国庆被迫辞职下海。在商海打拼中，国庆由当年委曲求全的小伙子变成了对下属严格苛刻的老总，并患上了抑郁症，夫妻俩的关系也渐行渐远。庆祝从小就把爸爸国庆当成自己的榜样，并将父母当年誓言要去的岔口村当成了自己心中的圣地，一年前，庆祝独自一人去岔口村徒步，因为救人而意外去世。纪毅是庆祝资助过的一名山区孩子，纪毅年轻气盛，性格耿直，做事积极，但因为急于求成，常常会犯错。国庆在看完庆祝写的推荐信后，留下纪毅当了助理。为了挽回妻子、同时弥补对儿子的亏欠，国庆与纪毅踏上了岔口村的徒步之旅。

　　豪叔与友叔本是全真派同门师兄弟，两人相邻而居，各自开了间私塾以谋生路。因价值观和性格不同，二人常常斗嘴，成了对欢喜冤家。 这天，友叔偶得棺木一副，不想其中竟藏有因受瘟疫感染而成为妖人的姜小斯。 友叔和豪叔为如何处理妖人姜小斯起争执，姜小斯趁乱使用超能力逃走，却与豪叔义女周茗茗在厨房偶遇，并渐成为好友。众孩子一起逛灯会，姜小斯却因使用能力暴露位置，被豪叔捕获。 正当豪叔、友叔为争夺姜小斯相斗时，科学怪人派人趁机掳走姜小斯。 周茗茗等人沿路追踪，试图营救姜小斯，豪叔和友叔在发现姜小斯不见后也停止争斗，赶往科学怪人基地。 经过一番让人捧腹的营救后，豪叔终顿悟姜小斯的善良，放下成见，众人联手将恶人逐一击败。

For Momoka, the Ballade embodies the anguish and rebellion she feels but doesn't allow to surface.　　For 22-year-old Paul from Glasgow, the piece is life-changing. Paul grew up in Bellshill, a working class suburb of Glasgow. He first played piano at 15, and it opened up a whole new world for him. During his first term studying on the B.Mus (Hons) degree programme at the University of Aberdeen, Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumour and then MS which both eventually caused him to lose the ability to walk and to play with his right hand. Waiting in his hospital bed in between operations over three months, he played the Ballade again and again on the iPod his dad Stephen had given him. It was that single piece's emotional pull that Paul credits with the return of his memory.　　Paul told us some more about his involvement in the programme:　　"I have been for some time now transcribing the Ballade in g minor for the left-hand alone. The reason being I played this piece back in high school and with the medical complications lost the ability to play perhaps my favourite piece of all time. Luckily for my this piece was going to be the subject of a major documentary and with my story and attachment to the Ballade I was selected to be involved!"　　The film includes interviews with some of the world's greatest pianists including Stephen Hough, Lang Lang and Vladimir Ashkenazy. It was shown on Channel 4 in August and trailers can still be viewed on 　　The documentary was awarded 2nd place in the 'Halo' Best Arts Documentary award category at the awards ceremony on Monday, 4 November 2013 at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s Southbank Centre. The ceremony was filmed and shown on Sky Atlantic.

　　The docuseries launches on February 10, 2025. Ridley Scott, director of Black Hawk Down, contributed to this docuseries through his production company RSA Films. However, Jack MacInnes directed it. MacInnes previously worked on documentaries, including Leaving Afghanistan in 2022. Producers Jamal Osman and Emma Supple worked with executive producers Dominic Crossley-Holland and Tom Pearson to develop the series.　　The documentary focuses on October 3, 1993, when U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force conducted an operation in Mogadishu. Their mission was to capture militia leaders loyal to General Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Chaos unfolded after RPGs brought down three Blackhawk helicopters, leading to one of the most challenging urban battles for American forces.　　The documentary includes stories from soldiers and survivors. U.S. troops recall being surrounded and fighting against overwhelming odds. Audio from news reports captures global reactions during the event. Somali fighters and civilians share their perspectives, including how U.S. airstrikes impacted families and inspired retaliation.　　Unlike the film, the series does not frame the story solely from the U.S. perspective. It showcases Somali experiences, exploring their motivations and losses.
